ABOUT THE WORKS

The works by Cory and Laura Jurica have evolved over the years to a remarkable back-story.  In their Photography Series, these pieces take us on a journey throughout the world.  These photos explore all 7 continents, and capture images through their crossing in over 40 countries to date.

What may be even more intriguing is the processes and materials the artwork is made.  The pieces are made from their own creation of handmade paper.  The paper itself is all recycled content.  Magazines, business journals, printer papers, and most types of junk mail is sorted and blended with materials such as acrylic, latex house paints, dryer lint, and other textiles to bind the paper pulp together.  This process is carefully tested and its pH is buffered to maintain an archival quality product.

Once the image is on the piece of paper, UV protective clear coats are applied over the surface, yet another step to stabilize the quality of the work.

To make the entire piece complete, old frames salvaged anywhere from garage sales, thrift shops, trash piles, and crown molding from construction debris is collected.  They are rebuilt into shadowbox frames, prepped and painted to become part of the total package, a complete piece of recycled art.  Much of the hardware is reused as well as most of the glass from old frames. To keep the pieces in a familiar presentation, the matteboard, foam core, seal paper, some hardware, and some glass are new product, (not from recycled material) which is why it is said the art is 80% recycled content.
